Changed the DNS to point to the domain controller After these two steps I was able to ping the DC using the FQDN successfully and was able to join the domain. Though I do agree with you that the IP scheme is not preferable, this system had been under that IP addressing scheme for many years without issues. Please let me know if I need to post any more information. If you can ping the dns server, make sure the dc's are visible in the dns zone.
