I'm using a link of the following format: add to calendar which leads to server-side route with .ics file generation logic. That is a lot to digest, but I'll see what I can do. But, when I refresh the page with the correct URL (www.somepahe.com/vcal.php) te v-card downloads??!!! Not working for me on 9.3.1. The solution, as you rightly put it is: Make sure the line endings are CRLF.
Most importantly, I don't think Android supports iCal or ics files.
