Tried "go back to most recent settings that worked" that didn't do anything, tried safe mode, same problem there, tried running the Repair Console and fixing problem that way with instructions have a peek at these guys I hit 'Retry' a second time and it reads the disc properly and proceeds happily as if nothing had happened.
What that refers to is an Anti virus program (norton AVG etc) that has an option to scan the boot for a virus, this interferes with XP install.
