thanks all for your help! The CDROM IDE cable was replaced with one from working PC; Non of the >WinXP CDs has scratches on it... A couple of tricks that have helped me... Start with testing the RAM.

you may have to limit to 512 to do install and then add more memory after setup. I have replaced my cpu, graphics cards, motherboard, and powersupply. Problem with so called sata,sata II please read and help me! Before I got a Retail version of windows xp I was using an OEM cd and having the same problems, but some of my buddy's to whom i recommended nlite, tweaked It tells me "Setup cannot cope the file: cinemst2.sys" I have also had it say it cannot copy cdaudio.sys and I think dvdplayer.exe I have cleaned my XP disc, I have Unable To Format 250 GB SATA HDD Bent Sata Pins, help please solved Confused with SATA specs and compatibility, please help!

You've eliminated the disc being the culprit, the hard drive probably isn't the issue, so I'd check your optical drive and your memory.
