The drive itself can be internally dirty on the reading lens. it is a legit copy and i had just installed every update. Next option is to borrow a perfect OEM install CD and use your own sticker tag to register the install. It installed XP on first attempt, no problems at all. If you dont know anybody that can help, only the first few options are open to you, and if you have no working OS on the PC now, that complicates matters
