you can borrow another CD drive to your friends, (just for a test) if it works,, then, your CD drive is the main cause. You say you had a virus. Memtest not only checks the total memory amount, it also checks every address for retention and accuracy. The strange thing is though that this same CD has been working on 5 other machines! The CD drive became unreliable at reading disks and was replaced. You've had your money's worth out of the machine. I'm assuming you already know with XP you have to set your BIOS to "run HDDs as IDE" or install SATA pre-drivers . (The Intel floppy disc thingy). Nevertheless, getting the original is not a big issue, but as I said, the CD is working on other PC's so I do not suspect the CD to be the issue. navigate to these guys then click enter ..to try again ...that might take you through ...or lead you to Another error ..you continue changing CDs until its done .... Oftentimes, registry issues are found to be the root cause of many system errors, including exe errors. But if it won't, you can follow also what mike1959 has said..

Cable. Several years ago I had this same problem as you are reporting, which was caused by the CD drive being faulty, I had to buy a new one, then Windows XP Press any key to exit. have a peek at these guys I did this and the install was flawless.
I turn the computer on, and press F2 to enter the BIOS Settings. Hopefully it is SP3 otherwise you are already looking at lots of more problems, like a 1.5Gb download of SP3 Please let us know how you get on. Please... i tried going to an iPod forum, and the first thing they suggest is to make sure that all windows updates are downloaded...please help!!
